Barbara Isemann

Founder, Director

Involved with OOWH Since:

Founder

My background is in academic pharmacy. I retired in 2018, but answered the community’s request to start this nonprofit. I’ve depended a lot on my board and OneSource Center for Nonprofit Excellence to gain the skills needed to direct this company….but mostly I work one day at a time trying to fulfill what I believe is God’s plan for me today.

Persons struggling with substance use disorder face monumental barriers to getting their lives back on track. Recovery housing made the difference for my daughter. She believes that everyone deserves the second chance opportunity that recovery housing provides…and I’m trying to help realize that…one person at a time.

My background and degree are in accounting. With over thirty years in the field, I bring that experience to the organization. I have been lucky enough to work with our founders, Barbara and Robert Isemann, in a variety of capacities from cleaning the homes to facilitating some of the organizing of the nonprofit.

Eight years ago, I lost my oldest son Zachary to heroin and fentanyl overdose. A crushing experience that any parent can imagine. He was at his most positive during his time in recovery housing. I am lucky to be a part of helping provide that opportunity to others.

On Our Way Home has given me the opportunity to help others through some of the hardest times in their lives. To be a part of someone's healing journey is an honor.

I'm honored to work for ON OUR WAY HOME. It truly feels like a home with family. We laugh together. We cry together. We heal together and we grow together. On Our Way Home is founded on what the world needs which is love and acceptance. Working here does not feel like work ...it feels like HOME.

My name is Marcie Isemann and I have been a part of On Our Way Home from its inception. I work as a program manager at a company that serves individuals with disabilities. I live in Anderson Township with my husband Andy and two dogs, Gabe and Blaise. We are super excited to have just had our first son, James, who was born in May 2024.

I am in recovery myself, and when I was looking for a recovery house there was only one that existed in my area when I moved back to Cincinnati. I see the huge need for recovery homes and support and am proud to be a part of an organization that helps serve people in need.

I am a retired nurse, I worked in the hospital for 40 plus years. My background is cardiac and intensive care.

I am here because addiction has surrounded my life. In recent years I lost a nephew from a fentanyl overdose and recently watched another nephew go through a liver transplant due to alcoholism. While my experience with nonprofit is limited, my experience with human touch, healing, recognition and empathy is vast.
